Don’t be Motivated – Be Inspired!

How many millions of dollars do major corporations spend on motivating their employees? The amount is ridiculous, but it’s even more ridiculous when you think about it from this perspective…

Motivation, by definition, is imposed – it comes from the outside with the intent to make us feel better on the inside. The employer’s idea is to increase and/or improve productivity/performance by improving how we feel at work. However, the problem with anything that is imposed is that it’s usually very short lived. How many times have you heard a motivational speaker that hit a note with you and made you feel wonderful, full of energy and ready to charge to world? And how long did that feeling last? Exactly! The reason it faded quickly is because it is an imposed “state of being.” It is, by nature, short-lived. Therefore, businesses need to continue conducting activities that will motivate their people, and so on and so forth.

Now, let’s talk about inspiration for a moment. Inspiration is within each of us – it cannot be imposed upon us or created artificially. Therefore, it stands to reason that if we were to discover what about our work inspires us, we would in turn find a much more sustainable source of positive energy to impact and influence our performance levels. Wouldn’t you agree? Here’s the kicker; the most successful people in the world – all of them – are or have been inspired to achieve what they have been able to achieve.

So why don’t companies hire people that are inspired? Why don’t they find a way to help their employees discover what inspires them the most out of what they do for a living? Imagine the possibilities… the results could be monumental!

On a personal note, this may be a phenomenal concept for us to understand and implement for ourselves. He who discovers his own passions and inspirations will undoubtedly uncover how to become very successful at what he does.

How successful do you want to be? This is the real question. Take ownership of your own future and discover what you are inspired by; what you are passionate about. Then, allow that to be your north star, guiding you to achieve your highest potential.

Refuse to be motivated. Seek your own inspiration and have the best week ever!
