The Woes of a Trailblazer

This morning, as I was figuring out next year’s operational specifics (after having determined the strategic aim), I realized that most people tell us that if we believe strongly enough and push hard enough, wonderful things will happen. What most fail to do is to share how difficult it can all be…

Understanding that everyone’s journey is different, I hope that you will find value in some of the most important discoveries from my own journey. In your own journey, contrary to what you might expect, these experiences have very little to do with what you do and a lot to do with who you are and the “you” that you discover through the process.

In the essence of being inspired by an epic journey, I have drawn inspiration from concepts in The Lord of the Rings to tell what I am about to share. I hope the imagery that the concepts elicit will add value to that which is shared.

The Marshes of Fear – Second-guessing is a more common challenge than most trailblazers are willing to accept. Because of this (and not reinventing the wheel) it is critical that trailblazers are able to trust the advice of others.

The Trails of Silence – With that said, it can still feel like a lonely path filled with uncertainty, and while we may surround ourselves with people we trust – in the end, every decision is ours and only ours.

The Desert of Nourishment – When trailblazers set out to achieve their goals, time becomes a valuable commodity, meaning that self-development can be thrown on the back burner. Always remember that continuous learning and personal growth, if you are truly trailblazing, must come from somewhere within you so that you can continue clearing the path that others have not.

The Land of Desperation – It is inevitable to experience leanness in resources, energy, finances and emotional strength. The question is how do we prepare for these and when they arrive, how do we deal with them? If we allow ourselves to reach desperation, 9 out of 10 times we will make wrong decisions. Then, we might as well have the tombstone ready.

The North Star – Always keep in mind your passion, that which was so boisterous inside of you that you just had to go for it. Understanding what drives you is so much larger than you and much larger than any problem that you may encounter. It’s your ever-lasting fuel source. Remember to tap into it and don’t forget to do so when you need to.
